I lived there for a year and loved it, did lots of baking and thoroughly took advantage of the variety and quality of Kiwi food available. Make sure you join up with the superb Christchurch city library - if they don't have the book you want, they will make sure to get it for you. I read my way through large piles of cookbooks this way. Things to watch out for: Cuisine: my favourite NZ food magazine Lois Daish and Julie Le Clerc: great New Zealand food writers. You'll find all their books at the library Sunday morning Christchurch market at the racecourse: fresh food, lots of junk, plants and people. A great browse Charity shops: where I got most of my pots and pans Canterbury Cheesemongers: as well as fantastic cheese, they used to do pork pies every Tuesday... Governors Bay Hotel: a foodie hideaway, just an hour from the city.
